Desktop 14.10 Alpha is aimed at users who want a full featured desktop Linux.  It comes complete with LibreOffice, WINE, Java, VLC and a host of other applications.  As with Netbook, it also comes with Firefox and TOR browser built in, uses LXDE and Wbar.  You can download it at   http://sourceforge.net/projects/simplicitylinux/files/simplicity1410Alpha/Desktop1410Alpha.iso/download  It is 607.7mb and has an MD5sum of   48a69ced53e4dd32cb0db8c11fefa99f

We hope you enjoy using these images, but please bear in mind they are Alpha releases so they may be unstable, could have bits and pieces which won’t end up in the final release and may contain nuts and other allergens.

Improving the number of supported wifi cards is one of the things we’re working on in the beta release. Hope that helps a little!

    Hi,
    I use puppy a lot slacko 5.7
and on this I cant get the internet connection to work on any configuration.
It says it is working but the browser won’t connect.

Tried downloading your previous version and same thing happened.

I really like the layout though and would prefer to use Simplicity with auto detect of internet and dual screens automatically configured would be great.

The Internet connection thing is odd, we’ve tried it on a few different machines with no problems. Have you tried using different network wizards using the command wizardwizard in the terminal? Hope it helps.

sooo being the hassle free person that i am, ive been a solid ubuntu user for many many years.. a recent recurring update/video driver issue motivated me to check distrowatch and see whats new.. i burned a copy of simplicity 14.10 alpha(best alpha release ever) and disco! i then used a usb drive to play with it further and have since put it on my harddrive. its awsome, hassle free desktop computing.. im impressed! thanks for sharing!

    How do I:
update Tor in Simplicity 14.10 Desktop?
    install Teamviewer 9?
    install Netflix?
add the XP style theme found in Subdivision to Simplicity Desktop?
use two monitors in extended mode?

    Lost newbie

1: The latest TOR Browser is available from http://www.smokey01.com/OscarTalks/tor-browser-3.6.5-x86.pet
2: I’ve never tried to install Teamviewer, so I’m not sure, but remote desktop is a feature in SImplicity 14.10 Desktop Beta
3: Netflix is not available yet. We’re hoping to get it running soon, but right now it’s not available.
4: The XP theme wouldn’t work with Desktop, but Subdivision is just Desktop made to look like XP.
5: I’ve never tried to run two monitors, so I’m not sure, sorry!

I hope this helps at least a little!

Desktop1410alpha did not auto-detect Broadcom BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless device to connect to Internet, it only detected Wired ethernet device on my machine which has AMD ATI Windows7, and I did frugal install for dual boot with Simplicity1410.

Desktop147 on the same machine detects Wireless adapter nice &easy.
Any suggestion to get Wireless worming with 1410 as well ?

    i am addicted to Simplicity.
    Regards

  13. I am very familiar with Puppy Linux and am pleased to see your variations with some nice extras. I prefer the Netbook version because of it’a appearance. A W Bar without the dark frame is much better looking. It may be an alpha but it’s working just fine on my Sony VAIO “all in one”,

    Thanks for the effort.
